Soul Society

Soul Society is the place where the good and cleansed souls, the "Pluses", go. There are two different areas of Soul Society. Seireitei (The Court of Pure Souls) is where the Shinigami live. The second district is Rukongai (Wandering Soul City), the place in soul society where normal souls go. Most souls are not allowed to enter Seireitei, so they live in Rukongai. There are different districts in Seireitei, arranged in ascending order by the number of spirits leaving in an area; the more spirits, the more dangerous the area. The souls in Rukongai normally don't find their family from the real world, instead, they form new families with other spirits..

Tower of Penitence
The Tower of Penitence serves as a prison for those awaiting execution under the powerful Soukyoku (its the name of the execution grounds). The Tower is heavily guarded, and within it are contained very slim windows for the sole purposes of the prisoners to gaze at Soukyoku before their execution.

Kuukaku’s House
Kuukaku's house is in an unnamed location in Rukongai. On the outside, it looks like a shack with your a huge chimney (which is really a cannon), and two arms that hold a sign saying that it is "SHIBA KUUKAKU".

When you enter the house, you are immediately lead down by a flight of stairs. Continuing with the houses’ normality this staircase extends for more than your typical twelve to fourteen stairs, it goes on for maybe more than fifty. Not only that but when you reach the end of the stairs you find yourself within a humongous underground mansion. There are several rooms extending over a wide area. One of the doors leads to the "cannon room". The cannon is used to launch fireworks by Kuukaku, who is known as “Rukongai’s Number One Fireworks Maker.” It was also to penetrate the Court of Pure Soul's barrier.

District 78: Inuzuri
This is where Kuchiki Rukia and Abarai Renji are from. This place, is of less quality than District 1. Here children steal from vendors and live in shacks. Its not considered to be a very nice place to live.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

District 79: Kusajishi
Though not much is seen in this district we know that the 11th squad captain, Zaraki Kenpachi, found the 11th squad vice-captain, Kusajishi Yachiru in this district. It is also where the 11th squad vice-captain recieves her surname.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

District 80: Zaraki
Just like Kusajishi Yachiru, Zaraki Kenpachi also gets his surname from a district. They aren’t much of “family” names. Other than the name of the District, nothing is truly known about District 80 of Southern Rukongai.

The Seireitei (The Court of Pure Souls)
This is where most of the interesting locations are. Most of chapters/episode are set in Seireitei. The Seireitei itself looks much like the streets of a nice city back in the old days.

Walls
When Ichigo is first told that Soul Society is only a stone’s throw away he went rushing to it. He was only disappointed as he discovered that the way was blocked by a wall that seemed to fall from the sky. These walls are composed of a material known as death stone. This material can drain all the spiritual energy from a person if too close. These walls surround all of Sereitei and are only able to be bypassed via four gates at each direction. Each Gate is guarded by a Guardian (although Ichigo's team managed to break the barrier using Kuukaku's cannon).

Anyways, even if you manage to defeat the Gate Guardian there is still the task of opening the gate. The gates are incredibly heavy and require immense strength usually possessed by the guardian themselves. Basically the only avenues open to enter the gate are to befriend the guardian, hypnotize the guardian, or have immense strength.

Underground Sewers
The sewers are like a complex maze that twist and turn. It is likely that if you don’t know your way you’ll easily get lost. The 4th Division is the only division that can easily navigate the labyrinth as they use it as a supply route to get from one are to the next easily. On top of that the sewers are quite clean seeing as how the 4th Division only deals with the “chores” of The Sereitei.

Shinigami Academy
Its exact location is not known, most likely somewhere within the Sereitei. Inside of the academy it looks like a modern school crossed with a Japanese castle. The rooms are high with tiered seating as well as large halls that seem to go on forever. Within this school are many shinigami-in-training as well as very well respected teachers. This is the same school from which Renji and Rukia graduated.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jail
During the Soul Society Saga there were a number of people that were arrested and thrown in jail. There is a section of Sereitei that is solely dedicated to the detainment of certain individuals. The cells themselves are very generic with their vertical bars as well as the cot where the prisoner would sleep in. Usually, they would be constrained with spirit handcuffs that cut off the prisoners reiatsu supply.

Central Room 46
Central Room 46 is where legal decisions are made. It can be considered as the government of Soul Society. Here all decisions are made without question. The building itself is underground. The only part visible from the surface is an octagonal courtyard that leads the main entrance to the underground hall. Within this hall is a court room of some kind where 46 people (40 wise men and 6 judges) govern. Just like the upper courtyard the court room consists of an octagonal seating arrangement within another octagonal seating arrangement. Farther down in the hall there is the living quarters of the Central 46. They are huge towers which house the 46 when in seclusion. The actual make up of these towers haven’t been described.
